Financial Coach

Job Description:

The Financial Coach/Career Coach role involves providing direct services to individuals with low-to-moderate incomes enrolled as participants in the Financial Opportunity Center. This position focuses on delivering financial education classes and personalized coaching to enhance participants’ money management skills and increase their income levels. Responsibilities include assisting participants in improving credit scores, reducing debt, increasing savings, managing money effectively, and avoiding predatory financial services. The role also entails engaging with employers, service providers, and community residents to strengthen the employment component of the Financial Opportunity Center.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify employment sectors and employers in targeted neighborhoods suitable for hiring Financial Opportunity Center participants.
  • Assist participants in identifying long-term career aspirations and developing actionable steps to achieve their goals.
  • Prepare participants for employment opportunities through coaching on job search techniques, interview etiquette, resume development, etc.
  • Facilitate connections with employment or skills training to secure jobs and advance careers.
  • Conduct workshops, networking, and maintain relationships to actively promote career opportunities.

Additionally, the Financial Coach performs various duties throughout the financial coaching cycle:

  • Establish mutually agreed-upon goals with Financial Opportunity Center customers.
  • Screen participants for program eligibility, conduct intake, and orientation.
  • Enhance participants’ knowledge, skills, and access to financial security pillars: assets, banking, credit, debt, and taxes.
  • Coordinate financial education workshops and outreach strategies.
  • Continuously improve curriculum design and delivery based on participant feedback and best practices.
  • Provide individual financial coaching to assist participants in meeting their financial goals.
  • Maintain accurate customer files and compile data for program assessment and evaluation.
  • Network with program staff, financial institutions, and social service providers for referrals.
  • Document financial coaching activities in compliance with agency and funder guidelines.
  • Track participant progress and outcomes using Salesforce.
  • Conduct community presentations, assist with trainings, and attend meetings.
  • Prepare monthly program reports for supervisors.
  • Participate in program events and initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience with educational and asset-building programs.
  • Strong listening and interviewing skills.
  • Creative problem-solving ability and initiative.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Cultural competency and flexibility in working with diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Operational knowledge of the internet and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage databases and reporting systems.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services or related field.
  • Financial Coaching Certificate preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Pass pre-employment screening, including background check.
  • Possess TB Certificate and full COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Have reliable transportation and valid California driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform physical tasks as necessary.
