Community Development Initiatives

CCNP is dedicated to providing the community with the resource to be informed, engaged, and empowered to ensure that their voices are a part of community development initiatives and projects. Based on the premise that the people who live and work in a neighborhood are best-equipped to plan the neighborhood’s future, CCNP is laying the groundwork for residents to become community-based planners to support and guide community education, traffic safety, and economic development projects in their neighborhoods.

Our Initiatives

Health Outreach and Education:

CCNP collaborates with various partners to promote health education and awareness throughout the year. In addition, each October is dedicated to health with a large health fair, workshops throughout the month, flu shots, and other wellness activities. Past initiatives have promoted heart health, dental hygiene, and nutrition education. CCNP Current initiatives include:

  • COVID-19: Education, Engagement, and Navigation
  • Mi Salud, Mi Comunidad: Cancer Screening Awareness

Community Planning Transportation and Pedestrian Traffic Safety:

Since 2010, CCNP has engaged in transportation planning initiatives and safety education with the most recent projects including LADOT Vision Zero, the Great Streets project through the Office of Mayor Garcetti for the “Together for Alvarado” project, Southern California Association of Government (SCAG) transportation and COVID-19 initiatives, and the Office of Transportation Safety.

Community Education:

CCNP collaborates with Los Angeles City College and other local adult schools to support adult education. The most popular classes include English as a Second Language (ESL), Basic Computer Literacy, and In-Home Support Services (IHSS).

Housing:

Through the CCNP Treasure Your Housing ® program, the CCNP team works side-by-side with the community to help stabilize their housing and prepare them for affordable housing application opportunities. Participants receive financial coaching, housing rights information, guidance regarding required affordable housing documentation, and assistance with filing taxes. Community members who participate in the program increase their financial awareness and learn how to stabilize their housing.

CCNP also works with local affordable housing developments as an application distribution site to ensure that the local community has access to affordable housing opportunities.
