College Ambassador

Job Description:

Join us as a College Ambassador and play a pivotal role in shaping the futures of middle and high school students. Through tutoring, homework assistance, and college preparatory activities, you’ll guide students towards academic success and readiness for post-secondary education. Working closely with Case Managers and LAUSD Pupil Service Attendance Counselors, you’ll empower students from underserved communities to graduate high school and pursue higher education opportunities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead dynamic tutoring sessions and engaging college preparatory activities for groups of up to 100 students every 12 weeks.
  • Provide invaluable guidance on college applications, FAFSA/Dream Act applications, scholarships, and financial aid resources.
  • Review and enhance student personal statements, essays, and other application materials to maximize their chances of success.
  • Organize inspiring college field trips, special events, and workshops covering study skills, SAT/ACT prep, and financial literacy.
  • Maintain meticulous academic records, attendance logs, and student progress reports to ensure accountability and track success.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with staff, counselors, and community partners to provide comprehensive support to students.
  • Assist with monthly reporting and actively participate in team meetings, trainings, and program evaluations.
  • Plan and execute vibrant youth-centered events and activities throughout the year to engage and empower students.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current college student with strong leadership skills and a passion for making a difference.
  • Proficiency in language arts and algebra, with the ability to demonstrate skills through a pre-employment test.
  • Prior tutoring experience and familiarity with college admissions processes highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of high school requirements, SAT/ACT, FAFSA, and scholarship opportunities preferred.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to effectively engage with diverse student populations.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills are essential.
  • Fluency in English required; proficiency in Spanish and/or Korean is advantageous.
  • Commitment to maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Flexibility to accommodate a dynamic schedule, including occasional weekends.

Technological Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web-related technologies.
  • Ability to manage databases and generate impactful written reports.

Education/License Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current college enrollment; ongoing enrollment throughout employment is mandatory.
  • CPR certification may be required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background check and TB test clearance.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds unassisted.
