Pay: $22 per hour
Hours: Part-time, 20 hours per week

About Central City Neighborhood Partners (CCNP)

Established in 1994 and incorporated as a formal nonprofit in 2000, Central City Neighborhood Partners (CCNP) addresses socio-economic challenges impacting low-income families in Los Angeles. With a focus on Westlake and surrounding communities, CCNP expanded to Koreatown in 2024. CCNP collaborates with partners to create pathways to financial security and economic opportunity through programs like the FamilySource Center (FSC) and financial asset-building initiatives.


Position Summary

The Academic Coach leads up to two groups of approximately 100 middle and high school students every 12 weeks in tutoring, homework assistance, and college preparatory activities. The goal is to prepare students for high school graduation and post-secondary education. This position works collaboratively with students, Wellness Coaches, and LAUSD Pupil Service Attendance Counselors to support academic and educational goals.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the FSC’s College Corner, providing academic resources and support.
  • Develop lesson plans based on LAUSD student educational assessments.
  • Provide group and individual tutoring in English and math.
  • Oversee and coordinate peer support/tutoring groups.
  • Assist students with homework, test preparation, and academic skill-building.
  • Offer workshops on study skills, SAT/ACT prep, and financial education.
  • Research and identify financial aid resources, including scholarships and AB540 financial support.
  • Organize and execute college field trips and special events.
  • Assist students with college admissions, FAFSA completion, and navigating financial aid processes.
  • Maintain accurate student records, including progress reports and attendance.
  • Collaborate with key staff, partners, and local schools to support students’ goals.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and annual events such as Cash for College, community fairs, and holiday celebrations.
  • Provide extended learning opportunities during summer for A-G courses.
  • Additional tasks as assigned by supervisors and leadership.

Qualifications and Experience

Required:

  • Must be a current college student in good academic standing.
  • Strong skills in language arts and algebra (verified through pre-employment testing).
  • Ability to plan and implement lesson plans.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge of high school A-G requirements.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations with cultural sensitivity.

Preferred:

  • Experience in academic tutoring.
  • Familiarity with SAT/ACT, FAFSA, AB540, California Dream Act, and DACA resources.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and/or Korean.

Education and Certification Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current college enrollment (verification required).
  • CPR certification.

Additional Requirements

  • Pass pre-employment screenings, including a criminal background check.
  • Provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Valid TB certificate and full COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Flexible schedule (Monday–Thursday, 2–6 PM, with occasional weekends).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform essential job functions with reasonable accommodations.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and bending; ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Good vision, hearing, and communication skills.
